Polar-R® Below-Grade Insulation

Film Faced EPS Insulation (Flat 4' x 8' Sheets)

Polar-R® combines high performance EPS with strong film facings, making it an energy efficient, durable and flexible below-grade insulation for perimeter and underslab applications. A well-insulated foundation will save an average of $250 to $450 annually on energy bills for a typical 1,500 square-foot home. Polar-R’s high R-Value and tough film facings make it the preferred below-grade insulation for preventing foundation heat loss.Typical R-Value thicknesses include R-5, R-7.5 and R-10. Polar-R® Below-Grade EPS is available in 4’ x 8’ sheets and comes in a range of thicknesses: ½”, ¾”, 1 ½”, 2”, 3” and 4”.

Polar-R’s rigid closed-cell structure also provides superior moisture resistance and protects foundations from expansive soils and damage during backfill. Polar-R® Below Grade Insulation is environmentally safe and contains no CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs or formaldehyde.

Installation Instructions for Polar-R® Below Grade Insulation

  • Install Polar-R® Below-Grade EPS Insulation for perimeter and underslab applications according to design drawings.
  • Polar-R® EPS should be applied on a vertical surface with an adhesive that is compatible with the EPS insulation.
  • Install directly against foundation and below-grade surfaces. Reference manufacturers’ application guidelines and building codes for additional installation information.
  • Polar-R® can be used in direct contact with wet concrete, e.g. underslab. For optimum performance, provide drainage away from Polar-R® and protect from petroleum distillates and long-term exposure to ultraviolet light.
