Polar Fold® Protection Board

Film Faced EPS Insulation (4' x 50' Fan Fold Sheets)

Protecting a foundation from backfill is crucial to the integrity of sheet membrane or liquid-applied waterproofing, because aggregates in the backfill can puncture the membrane and reduce the effectiveness of the waterproofing. Polar Fold® is strong, yet lightweight, making it the ideal protection board for below-grade applications. Polar Fold® expanded polystyrene (EPS) is not affected by chemicals or moisture and it can serve as an insulation when the project requires below-grade insulation.

Polar Fold® is manufactured with a rigid EPS insulation core wrapped with tough film facers and is used for protection in both vertical and horizontal applications. Higher R-Values can be achieved by specifying Polar-R®.
Polar Fold® EPS is available in 4’ x 50’ sheets and comes in 3/8” and 1/2” thicknesses.

Installation Instructions for Polar Fold® Protection Board

  • Polar Fold® EPS is compatible with various sheet and liquid-applied waterproofing. Consult the waterproofing manufacturer for specific details.
  • Polar Fold® should be applied on a vertical surface with an adhesive that is compatible with EPS insulation. Care should be taken to tightly butt all protection board joints.
  • Prior to backfill, all material needs to be inspected to insure that all waterproofing is properly protected before proceeding with backfill. Consult waterproofing manufacturer for specific instructions.
  • Horizontal surfaces can be protected with Polar Fold® Protection Board.
  • All material needs to be laid loosely and all joints should be tightly butted prior to finishing.
