EcoSix Recycled Content
First Ever 60% Recycled Content EPS Packaging ACH Foam Technologies is the first molder in the US to offer 60% recycled content EPS packaging using EcoSix, a recycled molding bead by RAPAC. Initially, EcoSix will be offered through WineLoc wine shipping containers - making it one of the most efficient packaging materials for the wine industry. EcoSix recycled content is available upon request in other EPS packaging. EcoSix is a breakthrough for the expanded polystyrene (EPS) industry and will provide customers with an environmental marketing position that they can be proud of. Traditionally typical EPS packaging has contained either only virgin material or from 10 to 30% recycled content. The recycled content was post-industrial scrap - or waste generated during the manufacturing process. The important distinction is that RAPAC's recycled beads are made of at least 60% reclaimed foam from EPS product that has been diverted from the waste stream.
No other manufacturer has succeed in producing EPS packaging with greater than 60% recycled content due to two key challenges:- Creating EPS packaging with higher quantities of recycled material causes a problem with strength. The more scrap EPS added to the virgin beads, the more difficult it becomes for the beads to mold together properly and maintain their strength.
- The supply of EcoSix recycled beads is limited at this point in time.
ACH Foam Technologies spent several months of testing to formulate a process to effectively manufacture EcoSix. With the help of industry specialists and 3rd party quality assurance testing, EcoSix has successfully passed ISTA 3A drop tests for 60% recycled content and it meets ACH Foam Technologies' strict quality standards. Environmental Benefits of EcoSix Recycled Content EPS Packaging- 60% recycled content in WineLoc wine shipping containers alone is estimated to reduce material in the supply chain by a total actual weight of 240,000 pounds annually.
- The high performance protection of expanded polystyrene reduces supply chain waste of goods broken or damaged during shipping and handling.
- EPS has superior insulating qualities which protect perishables during transit.
- The use of EPS packaging offsets millions of gallons of gas and emissions because EPS weighs half as much as comparable coated paperboard products.
- EPS has never contained CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs or formaldehyde, which are harmful to the earth's ozone. EPS is inert and does not produce methane gas or contaminating leachates.
